In this article you will find some tips on how to make sales promotion a success. You should really think about exclusivity and the goals of your sales promotion campaign.

Five tips

Sales promotion will cost a fair amount, so you need to plan it carefully in order to make it worth the expenses. The way you do these sales promotions depends on the product and the goal you want to attain. Regardless of the purpose of sales promotion, it is directly intended to entice the customers in the hope that they will purchase your items, using the sales promotion.

Give careful thought to the purpose of your sales promotion

A sales promotion can serve multiple purposes. You may want to use it to introduce a new product, to hype up your image, to raise brand awareness, to generate traffic to your website, to increase average order value or to get rid of your stock..

Limit the use of special offers

To be enticed by a special offer, it has to be temporary. Continuous sales promotion leaves customers no reason to buy your products. They might as well delay their purchase because they believe the product to lower in price during the next special offer.

Keep it simple

A special offer must be understood by everyone. Don't make it intricate, it will only scare customers away. You'd better use clear and simple language: 50% off, 1 free bottle.

Link your promotion to a special occasion

A special offer seems more exclusive and thus more inviting when it is linked to a special occasion. This occasion can just be about anything like, for instance, the Easter holidays or Father's day, the weekend, the coming summer or winter, Valentine's Day, the Tour de France and so on and so forth.

Make the special offer exclusive

It sounds obvious, but a special offer has to be exclusive and entail a real advantage for the customer. People are not stupid after all, they know what to expect and know when a special offer is really exclusive or not. A dull special offer that only holds an apparent advantage, is an insult to the customer's intelligence and will only be counterproductive. An easy way to make a special offer exclusive is by offering a discount coupon, with which one can get an exclusive discount when he or she returns it.
